Hitchhiking on Arch Linux [3 Weeks Experience]

Hey guys! So well I’ve been an Arch Linux user for the past 3 weeks. This a rather short article that I decided to write regarding my experience with it.

What do I use Arch Linux For ?

I am an UG CSE student so my major use is for programming, attending online classes and working out assignments. I’m in no way a power user who has used his/her system and tweaked it to the core.

But did you face “instability” as Arch is notorious for it ?

Nah.. I update and do system maintenance on a per weekly basis and have never had an issue. I run the Linux LTS kernel and have got it updated thrice in the past 3 weeks and everything works smooth. But I do inspect what all packages I have to update before updating them and thus the rationale for doing it on weekends. Arch Wiki has got a wonderful article on system maintenance which I’d read up before installing Arch. I usually check for any core package updates such as xorg, glibc and systemd and head over to the Arch forums as these are the core packages that can usually render your computer unusable. Also I use the Xfce desktop environment which is one the most stable desktop environments out there.

Until now I’ve never had any of the core package updates. But I still do check if such updates exist and if they do I delay the update for another week. I do not have a ton of packages on my system too.

All in all everything has been smooth sailing.

I will be sharing my experience with Arch Linux through these medium articles. Although I cannot guarantee when I publish the next one as it depends on my course load.

Thanks for reading!
